On Saturday, July 21, fire explorers from 29 posts throughout the Inland Empire competed in the 16th annual Muster Competition, a fire skills challenge designed to allow Fire Explorer posts to compete against one another.

Held at Apple Valley's Brewster Park, competitions included the "Bucket Brigade," "Water Ball" and "Make and Break" events.

Hesperia's Post 152 brought home both the gold and silver medals for the "Make and Break" competition, which required participating teams to assemble several lengths of fire hose and a hydrant, opening the hydrant to allow water to flow, and hitting a target with the water. Hesperia's "B Team" accomplished this in 13.38 seconds, and the Hesperia "A Team" followed them with a time of 13.91 seconds, coming in just six hundredths of a second before Apple Valley Fire's time of 13.97 seconds.

Coach and Post Advisor Brian Headley, along with dozens of supporters who showed up to cheer on the Hesperia Post, were very pleased with the outcome of the day.
