As a devoted Harry Potter fan, I have come to the end of a wild ride. What began as a curious step into adventure soon became an unexpected leap into a spellbinding, ever-winding journey.

When I am not impatiently anticipating the release of a new chapter of Harry Potter's life, I am either dedicating my time to rereading the books or continuously searching the media for Potter-related news. Many fans have been transfixed from the beginning of the publications; hanging onto J.K. Rowling's every word and always eager, hungry for more.

Unfortunately for the fans, there will be no more waiting in a never-ending queue to receive a Harry Potter book, because 10 years after the publication of the story of Harry's first year in the wizarding world, the series has come to a conclusion.

I always knew the day would come, yet loyal fans like myself were caught off-guard. Personally, knowing that the series had come to an end was troubling. I couldn't bear the fact that the adventure that had kept me on the edge of my seat has finally retired. As the final book approached, I began to reminisce about my life with Harry Potter.

I was mesmerized when my mother first read it aloud to me, back when I was very young. I hung on every word; I was awestruck and determined to follow this wizard boy's life story. I eventually found myself reading it everywhere: at school, in the grocery store, and under my covers at ungodly hours. I didn't know that this fascinating story would soon become a worldwide phenomenon; I didn't care, as long as I could continue embracing it as my own.

Eventually, the rest of the world caught on. Millions of people became engrossed in Harry's breath-taking adventures. Besides immense popularity, J.K. Rowling's creations lead to critical acclaim, successful merchandising, and films and video games. More and more people are eager to plunge into every new Harry Potter installment as it arrives.

I had never been quite as enthralled by a book before Harry Potter. Now, as I look back, it fascinates me how these books broadened my horizon. I was not aware at the time, but now I am sure that the stories helped develop my vocabulary, my reading skills, my study skills, my imagination, and my relationship with my mother. It is comforting that there are people out there who are as absorbed in Harry Potter's world as I am. This also means that I am not the only one who is distressed as the end arrives.

But has it really come to an end? Well as far as publications, Rowling has replied as a definite "yes." However, Harry Potter will always continue to thrive.

No matter what level of fan a reader may be, the typical Harry Potter fan is atypical. There are people my age with stories, as well as people half my age just starting on their journey. People of all walks of life can relate to Harry Potter's story, and therefore can relate to each other. This is why it fascinates me. The nature of a story inspiring a person's live is captivating ... it's like magic.
