Shirley Davison and Phyllis Herman of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4181 in Hesperia were the bearers of especially good and generous gifts last week.

Davison, the chair of the Eagles' Alzheimers' charity group, presented Knolls West Convalescent Home with two checks of $5,000 each. One came from the state's Aerie and other from the Grand Aerie.

Receiving the $10,000 gift on behalf of Knolls West was Stacy Sanchez, the facility's administrator.

"Thanks to gifts like this we can do extra special things," Sanchez said.

The funds will go to therapeutic equipment such as specialty beds, chairs and various activity equipment to stimulate the patients' minds.

Also on hand for the event, were activities coordinator Maria Cordova and Knolls West residents Betty Stratton, David Robinson and Ida Mae Althouse.
