"We need to say some special prayers for Madi," Hesperia Relay for Life team organizer Tracy Moyer told relay participants last Wednesday night. "Unfortunately little Madi isn't doing very good. We need to help that family as much as we can."

Madison Faler's family and friends have already discovered that Relay for Life is there to lend a hand.

"It's given us some hope, some answers, some education," said ReneƩ McAnulty, a friend of the Faler family.

"We wanted to do something that would help her," added Rachael Rogers. "We wanted to show we're supporting them, and hopefully we can raise money."

Through the Relay for Life network, donations have already begun to come in. Mojave Desert Classics of Victor Valley has made a generous donation. McAnulty, a kindergarten teacher at Cottonwood Elementary School, is challenging Hesperia Unified School District employees to donate $5 each to Madi's Downey Savings account.

Last Friday, Moss Bros. hosted a car show to raise support for the family, and other events are planned before the Sept. 15 and 16 relay.
