Imagine you and members of your organization atop a colorful float waving to thousands of happy parade-goers on Main Street.

It's easy to make that fantasy into a reality, say organizers of the annual Hesperia Days Parade. With only about two weeks before the Sept. 22nd event, last-minute slots are still open for parade entries, says Roxanne Williams, secretary of the Hesperia Kiwanis Club and parade committee chair.

With the theme "Celebrating People, Parks and Programs," the 49th edition of the parade pays tribute to everday people who make Hesperia - and America - great. Percy Bakker, a former Hesperia mayor who has served on numerous boards and committees, will serve as parade grand marshal. The event celebrates the Hesperia Recreation and Park District's 50th year of service.

"Basically this parade is for having fun and putting politics aside," said Richard Lupton, the current Hesperian of the Year, a Kiwanian and current member of the park board.

Leading the way this year will be the Sultana High School marching parade.

The parade, which kicks off at 9 a.m., begins at Main Street and Timberlane and finishes at E Avenue and Main Street.
