One motorist is dead and another is hospitalized in stable condition after a late night traffic collision on Hesperia Road.

Around midnight on Thursday, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the scene of a collision at Hesperia Road and Lemon Street. There they discovered a 2004 Dodge Neon and a 2002 Honda Accord had collided and come to rest in the northbound lanes of Hesperia Road.

Both drivers were in their vehicles at the time. The driver of the Neon was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The driver of the Accord was flown to Loma Linda Hospital with significant injuries and was listed in stable condition as of Friday morning.

Investigators believe the Neon was southbound on Hesperia Road, when it left the road for unknown reasons, reentered the road, crossed into the northbound lanes, where it was apparently struck in the side by the Accord, rolling the Neon.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld by the sheriff's department pending notification of next of kin.
