The High Desert is the home of jackrabbits, Joshua trees -- and 4X4 trucks. Not surprisingly, the demand for pickup truck service and accessories has spurred a new industry. So it's no surprise that Toys For Trucks has expanded its operation several times since its inception.
"Every year we grow by leaps and bounds," owner James Haskins said.

Initially located behind the Target store in Victorville, the shop later moved across from the Hesperia Police Station on Walnut near Santa Fe Road. In June, the store, which is co-owned by Korri Dondlinger, re-opened a 15,000-square-foot facility at 11352 Hesperia Road.

"This is our third and final home."

Today, Toys For Trucks has 20 employees who sell and service everything and anything truck. From audio to wheels and tires to lift kits and bed accessories, the store offers a myriad of goodies for trucks and off-road vehicles.

"We're a complete off-road service center," Haskins said, "everything from A to Z."

On Sept. 14, the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors were on hand to celebrate the store's grand opening. Also joining in the event were numerous vendors and Miss Hesperia Corinna Tillery, Miss Teen Hesperia Alexis Martin and Miss Young Hesperia Julia Morgan.

Many of the store's more impassioned customers are off-road racers, such as Haskins.

"It's in my blood. I grew up with it."

However, not all brave the dirt hills and gullies.

"We have daily drivers to off-road racers [as customers]," he said.

Trucks are so omni-present that "we do a lot of stuff for the County and City."

Haskins believes his Hesperia location is perfect for Toys For Trucks to continue doing what it does so well - grow.

"So far it couldn't be a better scenario. Just look at the roads. I think it's growing faster than anywhere else. I think it's a great opportunity.

"I'm really excited. I'm looking forward to moving forward with building our company and serving the High Desert."
