Guests, including Mayor Rita Vogler and her husband Al Vogler, visited Shelly's Place on the afternoon of Sept. 29 to enjoy tea, appetizers and swap Hesperia stories with Gary "Old Town Griz" Drylie, curator of the Hesperia Old Town Museum.

Also attending the semi-annual Hesperia History Tea was the granddaughter of the late heavyweight boxer Jack Dempsey. Known as "The Manassa Mauler," Dempsey helped put Hesperia on the map during his stays here in the 1950s.

Old Town Griz also presented a 21-question quiz on the history of Hesperia.
