It is sad and a shame for Councilman Mike Leonard to consider and be supported in a reelection especially after his proposal last June and action at city expense to put the wording "One Nation Under God" in the city council chambers. Such a blatant act of arrogance.

As an elected official anywhere and at whatever capacity, you are in place for the good of the entire community, not a platform for one's own belief's or those perceived of others. What an example of how the city council can be so totally detached from the reality of the community that I myself have lived, raised a family in since Hesperia becoming a city in '88.

It is the developers who have at their risks, improved the structure and look of the community. The city council should consider the "quality of life" of Hesperians. The time wasted and the costs for Mr. Leonard's proposal was shameful. Such city wide issues as blight, crime, noise, litter, traffic, etc. could have been discussed and with some resolution in place of the time wasted on his religious proposal.

He has his personal right to his religious beliefs and in the city of Hesperia there is no shortage of places of worship. But the city elected officials should focus on city business and improving the quality of life for Hesperians. Doesn't he and other city officials note the many for sale signs in front of houses, people want to get out of the area as Hesperia is being known as the south-central LA of the High Desert and the city council is oblivious.

Mr. Leonard I'd like to think is just a nice old guy with nice old ideas and doesn't want to deal with the real day-to-day issues of the community. Praying seems to be what's popular. Myself and others are just thankful for the developers and will try to do our best to raise a family and be a good citizen with values and morality, and act on this each and every day without the "praying."
