A transient was arrested Wednesday for the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl last month.

Cameron Butler, 49, described by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a transient, allegedly attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl on September 27 near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Willow Street.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., while the girl was on her way home from school, a white male in a van allegedly pulled up alongside her and asked her to get in his vehicle. The girl started running, but the driver kept the vehicle driving alongside until she tripped and fell. The motorist then got out of the van and approached the girl. At that point, she was able to get up and safely run home.

Butler was identified as a suspect in the case by sheriff's department detectives, and on October 24, he was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center on a charge of Attempted Kidnapping.
