The Hesperia-based High Desert AcroBrats gymnasium hosted the AAU Southern Pacific California State Gymnastics Finals on Saturday, June 9.

Special guests included Olympic gymnast Morgan White, who competed on the USA Gymnastics team in 2000 in Australia, and Mircea Badulescu, the 1976 Romanian Gymnastics Team Coach. Badulescu is currently coaching at the University of California Santa Barbara.

A resident of Fairfield, Ohio, White, 23, was the 1999 Pan American Games All-Around Champion, and in 1998 was Junior National Champion.

Badulescu also was coach of the Romanian men's team at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich. He became a U.S. citizen in 1990.

The event began with a noontime "parade of athletes" followed by the National Anthem, which was performed by local musicians, prayers by local ministers and introductions of guests, judges and dignitaries.

AcroBrats, which is located at 10232 I Avenue, is owned by Karen Mathews.
