Good Evening Board Members, Administrators, and Staff. I hope everyone enjoyed the Winter Break! I am very glad to be back after my absence from the last board meeting, I heard my replacement was quite the character! Hesperia High School is currently beginning second semester and we are off to a great start!

Now on to a new year and a new month! The month of January is off to a great start with the start of school last Tuesday. On Friday, ASB Leadership treated the student body to a fun inflatable lunchtime game. Next week will be very busy for our Junior Class, they are hosting Winter Formal "A White Diamond Dream" on Saturday the 19th in our Gym. The dance is sure to be a great hit and the highlight will be the crowning of the Winter Formal King and Queen. On Thursday the 17th, Herff Jones will hold their Ring Ceremony. This invitation only event is for those seniors who purchased class rings and is quite special for students and their parents. On Saturday the 26th we will be holding the District Wide Book Fair in our Cafeteria. Our Interact Club has been asked to help with volunteers for this fun even. This will be an excellent time to all of us to buy books and support our district.

For our seniors the looming thought of college is becoming a reality. As many of you know it's FAFSA Time! Our Career Center and Counseling Office will be holding a Financial Aid Night on January 30th in the Cafeteria. The guest speaker is from the California Student Aid Commission. This informational event will help to answer those questions that still remain, and believe me I have quite a few! The second round of Graduation Checks began today and will continue through the end of the month. These help make sure every senior is on track to dawn that cap and gown at the end of the year! January 31 starts the registration process for our underclassmen with the class of 2009 starting first. They will be registering with counseling and doing activities in the Career Center.

Now on to the wonderful world of Scorpion Athletics! There was no winter break for all of our sports teams as they participated in many tournaments during our days off. These past few weeks have proved to be very exciting for all our Sports teams as they battled our cross town Sultana in several key match ups. Our Boys Basketball team, overall 12 and 6, beat Sultana 70-67 in a nail-biter of a game. That win marked Coach Lugo's 150th win as a Scorpion coach. During a holiday tournament, our girls basketball team lost to Sultana by 26 points but now that league has started, it's serious time. Our Girls Basketball team really gave those Sultans a run for their money, garnering a Triple Overtime victory of 51-47. Boys Soccer, who is currently ranked #8 in their CIF division, went head to head against those Sultans and came out on top with a 4-1 victory, their record improved to 1-0-1 overall in league. Girls Soccer put up a good fight against their fellow Sultans, they remain optimistic about the season. The big win of the week was our Scorpion Wrestling Team. The matchup between the two CIF and state ranked teams was highly anticipated and laid the foundation for a Scorpion victory of 38-27! Considering two of our wrestlers had to forfeit, we think they did a great job! Adn just when you thought our fall sports was over, we continue to dominate in all league honors with our football team, some of our seniors are working with colleges on possible athletic scholarships and our own Coach Kistner was named San Bernardino Sun's Coach of the Year. Congratulations to all our Scorpion Athletes.

Even though were still in the month January, our school is already working on our February events. Our 18th Annual Mr. Scorpion will be held on February 9th at the Sultana High School Performing Arts Center. The theme for this year is "Mr. Kool Kat", a roaring twenties inspired show. There are 14 candidates and we anticipate a fun filled show. I would like to invite the members of the board to attend. Tickets will be delivered to you next week and we hope to see you there. February 19th is our annual 4.0 dinner which our ASB commissioners are currently working on. CAHSEE testing is on February 5th and 6th. Before I go, I am sure you've heard but our school has lost one of our alumni, Sgt. James Healy from the class of 2000, to the war in Afghanastan. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered flags in our state to be flown at half mast last Friday in honor of James. He leaves his wife, Shannon, also from Hesperia High School and his son, Wyatt, 13 months old along with many family and friends. He will be missed.

And now our ASB Vice Presidents, Emily and Tiffany, will be giving out some souvenirs from our upcoming Winter Formal and a copy of our souvenir program from the HHS vs SHS wrestling match.

Are there any questions? Thank You and Goodnight.
