Would you go to a dentist to select eyeglasses? Or course not! And while one can buy bicycles almost anywhere - K-Mart, Target, Toys `R Us, etc. - Hi-Desert Bikes is the one-stop shopping center for bikes.

George Peleikis, owner and manager of Hi-Desert Bikes, used to patronize other High Desert hobby and bike shops, but was dissatisfied with their selection, level of service, and expertise. He asked himself, "Could I do better than this?" And he has!

George started Hi-Desert Bikes 17 years ago, in 1991. He now has the largest and most comprehensive hobby and bike shop in the High Desert. A clean, friendly family-fun establishment, George has had everyone from his grandmother to nieces helping in the store. Four generations of them.

Yes, you can buy a bike in other stores. And they are less expensive. But the quality generally isn't there. And a bicycle isn't delivered fully assembled. It's frequently put together and adjusted by someone who doesn't know how to do it. And it's not customized to your needs, height and weight, and other factors. All these concerns are addressed at Hi-Desert Bikes and one can even take a "test drive." I know what I'm talking about: I bought my bike there and I bike all over town. My bike is five years old now and has over five thousand miles on it.

George also specializes in various hobbies. Almost everything from model kits and radio-controlled models to skateboards, and all the safety equipment to match, plus clothing, shoes, helmets, and various accessories can be found. A fully equipped and staffed service department, trained by George, is there to assist you. He will gladly do special orders on bikes, models, and parts - a thing the big chain stores won't even attempt.

So the next time you're in the vicinity of Main and Ninth Streets, in Hesperia, stop in and see it for yourself. I guarantee you'll be impressed. I know I was! Hi-Desert Bikes is next to Patty's Critters, behind Tom's and is open seven days a week.

Riding a bike is good, low-impact exercise, and it doesn't required gas, registration, insurance, and most important - traffic hassles.

Congratulations to George Peleikis for being our latest Business Star of the Month.
