A dispute allegedly centering on an ex-girlfriend has left one dead and four more men behind bars.

On Friday at 2 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a "shots fired" call at the Desert View apartment complex at 8498 E Avenue, near Lime Street Elementary School.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered Adam Atencio, 26, outside and unconscious, and paramedics later declared him dead at the scene. Atencio had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Sheriff's Department Homicide Detail investigators were called to assist with the investigation and the street outside the school was cordoned off.

Over the course of the investigation, investigators were told that four men had allegedly arrived at the apartment of Lucas Buckingham, 21, to confront him over a disagreement about an ex-girlfriend. Atencio was visiting Buckingham at the time.

A fistfight allegedly broke out, during which several shots were fired. The suspects then allegedly fled the area.

Buckingham was injured during the altercation, but did not appear to need medical attention.

Suspect Troy Fava, 23, of Hesperia, was located and arrested shortly after the shooting by deputies from the Hesperia station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Charles Carr, 29, Peter Lewis, 20, and Christopher Rivera, 27, all of Apple Valley, were arrested by the Sheriff's Department High Desert Crime Impact Team at various locations in Hesperia and Apple Valley.
