Good evening Board members, Cabinet and guest. My name is Michael Metzger and I am a new Board representative from Mojave High School. After almost 2 years as a Mojave student, our previous board representative, Sarah Soria, got married and is moving with her husband to Florida. We will miss her.


PROM
Mojave's 2nd annual prom will be held at Hesperia Country Club on April 12th. A Mystical Night is our theme. Our prom will include: hors d'oeuvres, a sit down dinner (choice of prime rib, chicken or vegetarian), dessert, prizes and giveaways, dancing the night away, the crowning of the prom king and queen, and their court. This night will be the perfect ending to our school year and the cost for prom is only 60$ per person. Prom photos will be available for an additional cost.

FIELD TRIP
For this month we have a whale watching trip.


OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Each year ROP teachers can nominate one student to compete in the ROP Outstanding Student of the Year competition. Danny Smith a Mojave High School student was nominated by his teacher Kim Walker. The competition included an interview, a professional portfolio demonstration and a presentation of his information technology skills. Danny competed against 90 other outstanding students throughout the county and placed 3rd.

CLUB NEWS
Sing Language Club is a new club at Mojave. The club meets Monday-Friday during lunch in room 105. The advisors are the new English teacher, Mrs. Rubio, Mrs. Berarra and Gina Pearson. Gina teaches other students and staff sign language. The club currently has 12 students that are interested in the class and three of those students have deaf parents.

CAHSEE
CAHSEE testing will be taking place this week. The English portion will be taken on Tuesday, March 11th and the math will be on Wednesday March 12th. The testing is for the sophomores who have not yet taken the CAHSEE.

PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY
Monday, March 24 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. we will have Chico Garza, Special Asst. to the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools as our Principal for the Day. There will be a luncheon at the District Office starting.

SPORTS
Mojave High School soccer team finished in second place and will be playing in the league tournament this Thursday, March 13, 2008, at George Air Force Base.

SCHOLARSHIPS/FINANCIAL AID
30 seniors have filed their FAFSA applications by the March 3, 2008 deadline. 20 of the original 30 seniors filed their FAFSA applications at school in the library. Also, Taryn Gorman entered an essay at the Pregnant and Parenting Teen Health Fair. The subject was "My Experience as a Teen Parent." She won 1st place and received $100 dollar cash prize and a $1,000 dollar scholarship to Victor Valley College.
