More than four dozen businesses and organizations displayed their wares Wednesday at the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce's 2008 Business Expo.

"It was wonderful," chamber president Mark Austin said Thursday.

Last year, the chamber took a year off from expos, and this year's event at the Epicentre on Hercules Street was put on by an all-new committee and staff, and with a narrower focus than previous expos.

"We made this more of a business-to-business expo," Austin said. "We had speakers at this expo: We had [Superintendent] Brad Mitzelfelt, [Hesperia Recreation and Park District General Manager] Cal Camara was there, [economic development analyst] Lisa LaMere from the city. ... We had seminars on the business problems that everybody was having."

A total of 54 booths were manned by businesses and community organizations. Hunny Do Remodeling and Artificial Grass had a putting green set up at their booth, while Golden Star Buffet and Out of this World BBQ served food at theirs.

"Even during the set-up, the feedback that we got was very positive," chamber executive director Yvonne Woytovich said Thursday. "Everybody I spoke with thought it was a great event. A good turn-out, a very well organized event with good planning."

Companies and organizations with booths at the expo included Blast Off Coffee, Monavie, Advance Management & Investments LLC, Shear Realty, Freedom Storage, Leslie's Cleaning Service, Learn CPR 4 Life, Sunset Hills, Exit Realty LT Associates, Desert Community Bank/East West Bank, Hesperia Transfer and Storage, C-Me Promotions & Embroidery, City of Hesperia, Edible Arrangements of Victor Valley, High Desert Therapeutic Massage, Argosy University, Bradley Controls, Idearc Media Corp., W.K. Financial Services, Automobile Club of So. California, Hesperia Christian School, Boys & Girls Club, Premier Home Mortgage, Daily Press/Hesperia Star, High Desert Hispanic Chamber, Tint Window Tinting, Shattuck's Automotive, ICR Staffing, Survivor's Pantry, Caremore, Printmart, Members Own Federal Credit Union, Above All Heating & Air Conditioning, High Desert Contractors Association, the Body Shop at Home, Bob's Big Boy, Bear Valley Party Rentals, Hightech Signs & Graphix, Hunny Do Remodeling and Artificial Grass, Hesperia Recreation and Park District, Out of this World BBQ, PFF Bank and Trust, Hesperia Chamber of Commerce, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Golden Star Buffet, High Desert Communities Online, Lyons Floor Covering, Heritage Victor Valley Medical Group, SBCO Econ. Development Agency and Siverts Publishing.

The chamber staff is already starting to think about the 2009 expo.

"There were some things we might move around or change around," Woytovich said. "This was my first expo to get through, so it was a little bit of a learning curve."

"Since last night went well, and people were encouraged by it, it will bring more people out next year, as far as booths go," Austin said. "All in all, I was happy. All in all, the people I talked to were happy."

"This was put on by a whole new group, but even some of the long-term members have said to me that this was the best expo that they've been to," Woytovich said.
