As most of you may recall, my wife and I live on a ten acre mini ranch in the Summit Valley area. While our log home is centrally located within the lower one half of our property, and our closest neighbors are situated at a considerable and comfortable distance away from our house, we're still able to quite easily listen in on all types of radio entertainment, that they've all chosen to dial into.

While the types of music and entertainment, that is listened to by our neighbors, may vary from country western, rock, Hispanic or talk radio, it's always either considerable amplified or diminished by the direction and velocity of a predominate wind. For example, in order for us to be captivated by country western music played by our neighbors to the south of us, the predominate wind will blow from that same direction. Similarly, if we are to be blessed by Hispanic music played by our neighbors' to the north, the prevailing wind will always come from the north.

Like most of you, I enjoy peace and quiet. One of the primary factors, that led my wife and me to decide to live in this area, were that it was secluded and set within a tranquil environment. Well, times do change, and so over the past twenty years, since we've moved onto our property, we've seen many more people move into our canyon, with some becoming our closest neighbors. We'll admit, that at first the prospect of having noisy neighbors living close by didn't seem very appealing to us. But as the years pass by, we believe that there is a genuine attempt by all of us, to respect each others differences, which leads us towards peace and harmony. More recently, my wife and I have also come to the understanding that one thing that makes our country so greatly, is how most Americans are willing to accept the diversities of each others cultures, and work hard to accept and get along with each other.

So now, whenever we hear the sound of music being delivered to us, from whatever direction the wind decides to carry it in on, we are quick to remember how blessed we are to live in a country based upon the principle of individual freedom. As Americans, I think its incumbent upon us to reflectively consider our blessings and the measure of our freedoms that we've been blessed with. Personally, I honestly believe that a realistic measurement of our freedom can be found within the various types of music that we all choose to listen to. Sounds that allow us to exemplify, express and define the freedom of our individuality. The sound of music, how sweet it truly is.
