The Hesperia K-Mart was robbed Monday night by a hammer-wielding thief.

At 9:48 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Hesperia station arrived at the Hesperia K-Mart in response to a report of a commercial burglary.

At the store, they were told that a man approached the store's jewelry counter, took a hammer out of his clothing, broke the glass and stole an as-yet-unknown amount of men's and women's gold diamond rings.

He then fled the scene in a black sports utility vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, approximately 6'2", wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap.
