Dennis De Hay of the American Legion Post 725 was named a Leaping Leader by K-Frog Radio during the Sept. 5 meeting of Zank's Coffee Club at Hesperia Christian School.


Bill Pettus of K-Frog presented the award.


Representing the Legion Post at the weekly meeting, De Hay arrives early every Friday to make coffee for the 100 or so attendees. He uses this platform to collect items that are then packaged and sent ot U.S. troops serving overseas. He makes routine visits to businesses in the area to pick up items they have collected.


De Hay has been instrumental in the formation of Legion color guards, which has participated in the San Bernardino County Fair opening and 20th anniversary event. He has been supportive of the local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Troop 151 and Pack 152 particularly.


"Dennis has made significant contributions to our community and the American Legion Post 725," said Chris Lindsay, a regular attendee of the coffee event sponsored by the Hesperia Chamber of Commerce. "He is a true patriot, his love for our country shows in his action."


Leaping Leaders is presented by Azusa Pacific University and K-Frog.
