Hollyvale Elementary School held its seventh annual safety fair on Oct. 17.

The students were treated to demonstrations by a number of local emercency services agencies. Agencies included Mercy Air, the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department, California Highway Patrol and more.

Dr. Robert Kirk, president of the Hesperia Unified School District's board of education, was on hand to enjoy the festivities along with fellow board member Hardy Black.

Not only did the event serve as an educational tool, but school principal Matthew Fedders said that the event demonstrated that there are a myriad of career choices in the emergency services field. Even at the students' young ages, planting the seeds of a career helps give direction, focus and motivation.

Afterward, the students went back to their classrooms to write about their observations, he added.

Upcoming events at Hollyvale include the High Soaring Hawks Assembly at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.
