NOTE: The following letter writer submitted three separate letters which the editor combined into one item.
Here we go again. Two years ago, Hesperia residents could not escape the signs and fancy flyers touting Robert Kirk, Hardy Black and Lee Rogers as "The Teachers Choice" for the Hesperia School Board. Today, we can't escape the expensive flyers and school bus signs proclaiming Anthony Riley as "Endorsed by Hesperia Teachers". It wasn't true two years ago and it is not true today. I don't know Mr. Riley; he may be an honest, intelligent man. But my blood boils when I see falsehoods designed to deceive voters. Just as Kirk, Black and Rogers were not supported by "teachers", Mr. Riley is not endorsed by "teachers". They were, and he is, endorsed by the Hesperia Teachers Association (HTA), THE UNION, not by teachers. The teachers and the teacher's union are two different things.
Be careful, Hesperia. Do you really want a brainwashed school board, completely controlled by the Hesperia and California Teachers Associations? Haven't they done enough damage? We need independent minded adults on the School Board. And while we are at it, don't be misled by the fact that Chris Bently is not endorsed by HTA. I understand that HTA's executive council wanted to endorse him, but he is so unacceptable that HTA's site representatives wouldn't stand for it.
There are excellent union endorsed candidates on the ballot. Vote for the candidates endorsed by the Hesperia union whose leadership actually seems to care about students (the California School Employees Association), Eric Swanson and Frank Rich. This time, let's vote for responsible, adult leadership.
What is going on with the Hesperia Teachers Association (HTA)? Now comes the story that HTA's, Political Action Committee, which is supposed to represent Hesperia teachers, has transferred $12,000 of HTA's money to some newly created hatchet organization called "Citizens for California Reform". The purpose of the $12,000 was apparently to politically and personally destroy, via numerous phone calls and flyers, a candidate for the Hesperia School Board, Eric Swanson, and to elect Anthony Riley and Chris Lindsay, cronies of Robert Kirk, President of the Hesperia School Board.
It is bad enough that they must perpetrate lies about an honest, civic minded individual to get their candidates elected, but if this story is true, HTA has misappropriated their membership's $12,000. The HTA's site reps authorized (by a margin of just 3 votes) endorsing only Anthony Riley. They did not endorse Chris Lindsay nor authorize maligning Mr. Swanson.
How did this happen? Who is running things at HTA? Jim Pace, that's who! Teachers, wake up. Do you see what is being done in your name? Even if you agree with HTA, you did not authorize this endorsement or the slander.
Please, for the good of your reputations, the district, and especially for the good of students, take back control of HTA. Throw out Jim Pace and his buddies. Until teachers stand up and do what is right, your reputations will continue to deteriorate. This type of corruption has gone on too long.
Chris Bentley is an angry, disruptive and, sadly, disgusting individual. Anyone who regularly reads the Letters to the Editor is well aware that he is angry and disruptive. Now, in response to the Hesperia Star's article, "State: Union Did Not Violate Election Law", and to comments posted online, Mr. Bentley posted the following disgusting comment:
"At least I identify myself when I write something, chickensheet. But keep up the comments, it will help your cause greatly."

Is this the language and temperament we want from our elected officials, especially school board members? What kind of example does this set for our children?
Is anyone aware of anything positive, uplifting or encouraging that this man has ever said publicly? I'm not. Even if he were right in the things he rants about, (which he usually is not) you would think that someone who wants to be on the school board would occasionally say something encouraging and uplifting; would once in a while pat an Hesperia Unified School District (HUSD) employee on the back and thank them for the honest and, at least, well meaning hard work. Why would a person identify themselves publically, especially HUSD employees? Anytime one of them draws his attention, he finds a way to harass them, slap them down, or sue them or the district.
This is a man who deserves our pity, not our votes.
