My eyes were immediately, upon getting my copy of the Star, drawn to the extra four page supplement entitled "Transfer of Power."

While I am not critical of his election, inauguration, or anything else at this time, I am very disappointed that on the back page entitled "Black Americans in public office" showed a total disregard, and perhaps disrespect of a few well known and respected black Americans who have in the past and some who currently serve in public offices!

How about mentioning the only current Afro-American Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas? How about the two former congressmen who served ably and well from Oklahoma and Connecticut? Perhaps they do not count because all three (and others) are not liberals nor are they Democrats?

All of those noted in this column save Condi Rice, ARE ultra-liberals, and more than a few are notable in that they were never convicted in a court of law.

I have the utmost respect for the late Barbara Jordan and Former Sen. Edward Brooke, and am ambivalent toward Gen. Colin Powell, but the rest I have grave reservations about.

Shame on you, Victorville Daily Press. I always thought that our local paper was at least fair and balanced in its presentation of both news and opinion.

I suppose I was badly mistaken.
