Ashley McCloud of Hesperia Christian was named the Agape League MVP girls volleyball player while the Patriots grabbed the Sportsmanship Award.

Hesperia Christian's Breanna MCloud also was named to the All-League volleyball team while Lacy Taylor earned honorable mention.

Patriot victory gives coach 100 wins

Hesperia Christian's 81-63 win over Excelsior last Tuesday brought Patriot coach Scott Dobyns' win record to 100 in just six seasons at Hesperia Christian.

Dobyns credited his assistants, Jared Hamilton and Sean Hayes, for playing key roles in the Patriot victories.

Patriot star Jordan Vargas again led the team with 32 points. Seth Thomas added 12 points and 13 impressive rebounds.

Hesperia defeats Sultana, 67-48

Led by A.J. Mathis' 17 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots, Hesperia defeated Sultana 67-48 at Hesperia High on Thursday.

Hesperia Christian gets past Joshua Springs 63-56

Hesperia Christian boys basketball team defeated Joshua Springs 63-56 last Friday.

Another stellar game by Jordan Vargas -- this time a 29-pointer -- made the difference. Vargas also had eight rebounds and seven steals. Seth Thomas had 12 rebounds.

Sultana loses to Victor Valley

Two Sultana basketball players hit three-point field goals, but the Sultans couldn't keep u with Victor Valley, who won last Tuesday, 65-26.

The three-point scorers were Johnson and Lamp.

Granite crushes Sultana's hopes

With a record of 0-14 going into last Monday's game (Jan. 26), Sultana hoped to change their momentum, but Granite Hills, led by Yoni Aynalem, had other things in mind. Granite Hills forced numerous turnovers to beat Sultana 68-41 at Sultana.

Hesperia Christian can't get past Pacifica

Despite 21 points by Jordan Vargas, the Hesperia Christian Patriots couldn't get past Pacifica Christian of Culver City as Pacifica won, 52-44 on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Last Thursday's 48-27 win over Apple Valley brought Sultana High's season dual meet record to a perfect 22-0.

Sultana finishes fourth at invitational

The Sultana wrestlers finished in fourth place out of 73 teams at the Saturday, Jan. 24 Temecula Valley Invitational.

With six placers, Sultana had 177-1/2 points behind Temecula's 200 points, Clovis' 187 and Bakersfield's 185-1/2 points.

Perhaps the most impressive Sultana wrestler was 145-pounder Cody Bollinger, who finished with a 4-1 record. He lost 4-3 in to finals to Scott Sakaguchi of Clovis, who is ranked No. 1 in the state.

Hesperia squeaks past Sultana, 1-0

The Hesperia boys soccer team beat Sultana 1-0 on Thursday.

With a pass from Josh Higgins, James Douglass scored for the Scorpions in the 78th minute.

Gremer leads Sultana with three goals

John Gremer's three goals and two assists led the Sultana boys soccer team over Victor Valley, 10-2, last Tuesday at home.

Luis Rosas added two goals and two assists. Brandon McGarvey had one goal and two assists. Other Sultana scorers were Tyler Lapp, Cody Huson, Marcus Thoms and Christian Blasius.

GIRLS SOCCER

Crosstown rivalry game ends in 0-0 tie

Both Hesperia and Sultana girls soccer teams got the same amount of goals - none - last Thursday.

Defensive stars were Hesperia's goalie Jessika Rodriguez who had eight saves and Sultana goalkeeper Chelsey Jones had two saves.

The Scorpions are 14-5-3 and the Sultans ar 15-6-2.

Sultana girls beat Victor Valley 4-1

Sultana girls soccer continued its winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Victor Valley last Monday, Jan. 26.

A.J. Rosales scored two goals, and Sasha Rodriguez and Brianna Gonzalez each scored.

Katie McGrath had an impressive double-double scoring 17 points and bringing down 15 rebounds.

Jashae Lee led the Lady Sultans for a 52-38 victory against the Victor Valley Jackrabbits last Tuesday at Victor Valley.

Lee had 14 points and nine rebounds. Marissa Cintron added 10 points.
