Both boys soccer teams from Hesperia and Sultana high schools made it past the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division V first round. And both face second-round action this week.

On Friday, Feb. 20, the Scorpions had a second-half comeback to beat Perris 3-2at home. James Douglass scored the game winner from a pass from Josh Higgins. Other Hesperia scorers were Adam Estrada, who was assisted by Irvin Martinez, and Patrick Marino, who received the ball from forward Luis Martinez.

Hesperia plays St. Genevieve on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Meanwhile at Lake Elsinore, Sultana beat Lakeside 2-1 on Friday, Feb. 20.

Hesperia's Marcus Thoms scored the winning goal on a pass from Miguel Romero. Thoms also scored earlier after receiving an assist from Luis Rosas.

Sultana plays either La Caņada or San Gorgonio on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sultana girls win first-round game

At home, the Sultana girls soccer team beat Bonita 2-0, giving the Lady Sultans a first-round victory in the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Sultana's scorers were Sasha Rodriguez and Megan Morgenstern, who received a pass from Brianna Gonzalez.

Sultana faces Palm Springs on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Hesperia can't get past Savanna

Despite a four-save game by Hesperia's Jessika Rodriguez, the Scorpions couldn't get past Savanna and lost 2-1 in the first round of the CIF-SS Div. IV playoffs on Friday, Feb. 20.

Danielle Rodgers scored Hesperia's only goal in the 15th minute.

Hesperia finished its seasion with a record of 16-7-4.

WRESTLING

Sultana makes history

The fourth-ranked Sultana wrestling team beat its No. 3-ranked rival Northview 32-25 in the Division I finals of the Dual Meet Championships on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Sultana finished its dual meet season with a perfect 27-0.

Hesperia wins first round

Hesperia wrestler defeated Mission Viego in the first round, then fell to Laguna Hills.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sultana girls stay in the hunt

The Sultana girls basketball team beat the Golden Bears 42-34 in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Lady Sultans held their opponents to only 11 points in the first half. Jashae Lee led the team with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Sultana later played Vista Del Lago on Saturday, after the Hesperia Star's press time.

Hesperia falls to Knight

The Scorpions couldn't get past a tough Knight High team, losing 70-33 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1-AA playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 19.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hesperia loses to Dominguez

The nationally-ranked Dominguez High from Compton was too much for the Hesperia Scorpions as Dominguez won 86-48.

Dominguez High's star junior Keala King had 29 points.

Hesperia finished its season with a record of 18-7.
