On Tuesday night, March 24, at the Rick Novack Community Center gymnasium, a clash of the titans brought together the Sheriff's Department Explorers and deputies from the Hesperia Station.

Over 30 deputies and explorers joined forced for their annual basketball game. Deputy Lisa Guerra organized the event to promote the special relationship both units share.

This pitted the youth and vitality of the explorers against the brawn and height advantage of the Deputies. Cal Camara, the General Manager and Tim Glass, Recreation Supervisor of the Hesperia Recreation and Park District officiated the game.

"Our District is committed to working with the Sheriff's Department and welcome them to our facility for this friendly matchup between mentor and student," Camara said.

The explorers got on the scoreboard first, but the deputies were not to be outdone. The teams battled back and forth throughout the game and when it was over, everybody won. As deputies and explorers shook hands, all agreed that the time and energy was well spent.
