For the City of Hesperia, 2009 has been a year of volunteerism and community participation, and on April 22nd, will join the worldwide effort to protect the environment for future generations, with an Earth Day event.

On Thursday, April 22, the City of Hesperia will be recognizing Earth Day by distributing free reusable grocery bags. Hesperia residents are invited to come to City Hall at 9700 Seventh Avenue, between 8 a.m. and noon to receive their free canvas grocery bag, while supplies last, to help clean-up Hesperia one plastic bag at a time.

"Earth Day is the perfect time for the City to come together and work towards preserving the environment for future generations," said Mayor Thurston "Smitty" Smith, "Think of the difference we could make if every Hesperia resident used just one canvas grocery bag, instead of plastic, when they go to the store."

Millions of people will be celebrating the 39th Anniversary of Earth Day this year, helping the worldwide movement to protect the planet and the future. The City of Hesperia is calling on its residents, students and businesses to be a part of this extraordinary day.
