Both the Hesperia High School girls and boys teams beat their crosstown rival Sultana High on the baseball diamond last week.

The Lady Scorpions displayed the most sting, taking down the Sultana softball squad with an overwhelming 23-0 victory.

While there were numerous Hesperia stars, perhaps none shone as brightly as Kelsey Byrd who pitched a shutout, struck out seven but also went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate. At the end of the game, Byrd had flown a grand slam, double and eight RBIs.

But there were other offensive stars for Hesperia include Jackie Peyrefitte, who went 3-for-4, Jamie Roland, who went 3-for-5, and Raeven Ball, who was 2-for-4. All three hit home runs.

The Hesperia baseball team didn't have a cakewalk, but easily took care of Sultana 6-3.

On the defensive side of the plate, Juan Manibusan threw the entire game for Hesperia.

Offensively, Adam Estrada got things going after singling. He stole second, moved to third, and stole home. Kyle Bussey had a two-run home run and Ian Overstreet went 2-for-3.
