The third time is apparently the charm for the Hesperia Unified School District school board.

After two attempts to meet last week, enough members to form a quorum -- in fact, all five members -- showed up at Monday afternoon's closed session opening to Monday's school board meeting.

Legally, the board cannot conduct any actions other than to adjourn to a later date unless a majority of the five-member board is present. Three of the board's members -- Hardy Black, Robert Kirk and Anthony Riley -- did not attend the originally scheduled April 20 meeting for various personal reasons.

The meeting was adjourned by the two remembers -- Chris Bentley and Lee Rogers -- to April 23. Again, Black, Kirk and Riley were unable to attend and the meeting was adjourned to Monday, April 27.

This time, everyone was at the meeting, and the board went into closed session, and was scheduled to reemerge two hours later for the public portion of the meeting. The board's agenda for the meeting includes voting to lay off 30 non-teacher staff members due to budget cuts and approving staff transfers to Oak Hills High School, which is set to open in August.

The meeting will be held in the HUSD Educational Support Center Annex, 15576 Main Street, at 4 p.m. (Note the earlier time.)
