At long last, recall petitions for removing Robert Kirk from the Hesperia Unified School District Board of Trustees have finally received approval for circulation from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters. The San Bernardino County petition approval process that, at its very least, could have taken 31 days actually took 81 days. But they are now ready and it is now time for this important mission to move forward.

The lengthy period of petition approval has not diminished the need for Robert Kirk's removal from office. What I wrote over three months ago still applies, now more than ever. The necessary course of action toward achieving educational and governance success for HUSD is in the removal of Robert Kirk from the HUSD governing board.

Robert Kirk must be recalled and removed from office so that he can no longer continue doing the economic and spiritual damage to our district that he is still fully engaged in. If Kirk's personal strive toward total control and unfettered power is allowed to continue unchecked; I fear that our district may never be able to recover from his harms.

Kirk has led a voting majority since his election. He still controls a voting majority that is oblivious to the needs of our students, parents, taxpayers, and dedicated professional HUSD staff. We must work toward achieving a truly student focused district and that requires a board comprised of members willing to ask -- on every issue -- is it good for our kids? Robert Kirk never asks that question -- never. We must stop the continual encroachment of corrupt county style political practices that have been an integral part of Kirk's governance and control for years.

We must have open and honest processes that guide HUSD through these most troubled times. Kirk has always operated behind closed doors out of public review. It must stop now. Reasonable people can disagree on issues, but those disagreements, and their support, must be clearly stated rather than simply using a voting block majority to control HUSD actions. HUSD cannot be governed by a simple count to three on its most pressing issues. And the record clearly demonstrates that Robert Kirk has strictly led a group of three who do as he wishes without regard for the greater goods and goals. It must stop. The upheavals of the district over the past two years have had one constant and controlling factor -- Robert Kirk. It is time for him to go do his harms somewhere else.
