Starting this week, the Hesperia Star is now available on the popular social networking site, Facebook.com.

"Our Facebook fan page allows us to connect with our readers and the Hesperia community in an immediate and intimate way," said editor Peter Day. "Like we've done with other new media, we're adapting with the times and expanding our palette of communication avenues."

The Hesperia Star fan page incorporates links to stories on HesperiaStar.com, postings from the paper's Twitter account (Twitter.com/HesperiaStar), discussion forums and photo galleries.

"We encourage everyone to sign up for our fan page and participate," said Day. "Community news is a two-way street today."

Originally a social networking site for Harvard University students, as of September 2009, Facebook has more than 350 million users worldwide.

To find the Hesperia Star on Facebook, type "Hesperia Star" into the site's search engine. Click "Become a Fan" to read postings as they are made.
