A speeding motorcycle triggered a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 south of the Highway 395 interchange around noon Monday, turning the southbound side of the freeway into a parking lot for several miles.
The motorcyclist, who witnesses clocked at more than 100 mph, clipped the back of one vehicle, slammed into the rear of a Toyota Yaris sending the rider flipping onto the freeway. As the rider skidded, he was struck by a Nissan driven by Emily Portuguez of Adelanto.
"I saw him literally flip into the air, and I really tried to get out of the way so I wouldn't hit him, but he ended up underneath my car," said a visibly shaken Portuguez, who was on her way to watch her son play soccer in Riverside.
The motorcyclist was knocked unconscious with a possible broken pelvis, officials said, and he was transported to a local hospital. His sport bike was split into two pieces.
The other drivers involved reported only minor pain and declined medical treatment, with several people stopping to help until emergency personnel arrived.
