With one month to go before the Hesperia Relay For Life event at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, the organizing committee is putting finishing touches on the schedule and looking for additional volunteers.

Most importantly, committee chairwoman Tracy Moyer and volunteer coordinator Danielle Chrisinger are inviting all cancer survivors to join the event's Survivors' Lap of Hope that officially starts the annual relay. The lap is always powerful and emotionally moving, according to Moyer and Chrisinger.

Each opening ceremony participant will receive a T-shirt and a special memento.

Another dramatic portion of each event is the Luminaria, which takes place through the night. Bags are filled with sand and a small candle. The outside of each bag is personalized to recognize people who have battled cancer. Survivors and those who have lost their battle to cancer are honored and remembered. Caregivers also will be recognized for their devotion to loved ones.

The survivor breakfast begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 10. The opening ceremony will be at 10 a.m. with the cancer survivors' lap of home will follow at 10:30 a.m. The luminaria begins at 9 p.m.

Survivor and Luminaria forms are available. Donations of $10 or more are requested for the Luminaria.
