Krystal Elementary School sixth grade teacher Stephanie Owens was honored Friday, as April's Teachers "R" Heroes award recipient.

The award, given monthly to a Victor Valley educator, is presented by Victor Valley College, El Dorado Broadcasters and San Bernardino County Schools.

The program recognizes a local teacher who "personifies dedication, both to his/her students and profession," the program's Web page on the VVC Web site reads in part. "Each honoree will receive a plaque, prizes, and a classroom party. All selected teachers will attend a private celebration at the end of the year."

"This award means so much to me," Owens said after the presentation. "I love my job, I love my students. I don't need an award to do what I do, but it's nice."

Owens was nominated by Krystal parents for the award. Among the other prizes, her students will receive a pizza party later this year.
