A motorist is in critical condition after rear-ending a sports utility vehicle Sunday afternoon on Cottonwood Avenue.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on March 28, police and fire were called to the 10500 block of Cottonwood, between Mojave and Mauna Loa. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, a vehicle traveling southbound on Cottonwood at a high rate of speed rear-ended a Lincoln Aviator stopped at stop sign at Mauna Loa Street.
The driver of the smaller vehicle was trapped inside and was removed by San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel. He was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with major injuries and is in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.
The collision is being investigated by the sheriff's department's Major Accident Investigation Team to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.
