Vanessa Estudillo was one of 68 Elks National Foundation four-year scholarship winners nationwide to receive an annual award of $1,000. Estudillo represented Elks Lodge #2646 in Hesperia.


Bryan Dongre of Wisconsin and Jenny Van of Arkansas received first place in the Most Valuable Student scholarship contest. Each will receive an annual award of $15,000 for four years.


Another two earned second place and will receive $10,000 each for the next four years. Third place winners will receive $5,000 annually; fourth-place finishers get $4,000 and fifth placers earn $3,000 annually.


Altogether, the Elks National Foundation will award more than $2.2 million to 500 finalists.


The 2011 Most Valuable Student scholarship event will begin on Sept. 1. The contest is open to any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen.
