Hesperia Explorer Scouts have received a $1,000 grant.

The California State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police selected the Hesperia scouts as one of 55 posts to receive a portion of the $76,095 in grants awarded this year.

"Our goal is to assist individuals having a desire to participate in law enforcement Explorer programs and help prepare them for a career in law enforcement," lodge president Roger Mayberry said in part in the letter to the Hesperia explorers.

Since 1994, the California State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has awarded more than $1,139,440.

Hesperia Explorer Post 505 will use the grant on training, uniforms and equipment, according to station spokeswoman Roxanne Walker. The post includes 30 scouts between 15 and 20 years of age. The scouts put in 9,821 volunteer hours in 2009.
