Two men are in custody after they allegedly used a shotgun in an attempt to mug a jogger Monday morning.

On May 17, shortly before 6:30 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the intersection of Muscatel Street and Santa Fe Avenue.

The victim there told the deputies that, around 6 a.m., while he was jogging, two men in a red van pulled up, brandished a shotgun and demanded his cash. When he told them he wasn't carrying any, they sped off. The victim recorded part of the van's license plate.

Deputies went to the Santa Fe Avenue residence listed as the home address for the vehicle by the Department of Motor Vehicles and discovered two men, and the shotgun, inside. The men reportedly fled with the shotgun, but were captured after a short foot chase.

Christian Pena, 21, and George Quintana, 19, were arrested for attempted robbery and booked at Victor Valley Jail. While deputies searched the residence, Pena admitted that a bicycle on the porch was stolen as well. The department is currently trying to determine the correct owner of the bicycle. The pair allegedly also confessed to the earlier attempted mugging.
