Ranchero Middle School students who earned a 3.0 grade point average or had perfect attendance were treated to three hours of farm-themed fun and games during the (occasionally) annual Celebration of Education last Friday night.

"It's for them and their families," said principal Cindy Costa. "It's our way of celebrating their academic success."

According to Costa, community members, including local businesses, donated numerous raffle prizes to the event.

"It's a community event," she said. "We're just very proud of our kids."

ASB students ran the booths, while Ranchero teachers and staff helped supervise the activities.

"Angela Romero, our ASB director, really did a fantastic job of putting this together," Costa added.

Mewt, a band comprised of former Hesperia Unified students, performed live music for the audience.

Costa gave special credit to Ranchero parent volunteers, who are organized by parent Katie Kistner.

"The parents give so much of their time," she said. "We really appreciate it."
