Sept. 20, 2010 I wrote my one and only letter to the editor. As I said then I am feign to use the press to propagandize my point of view but the deteriorating state of affairs at HUSD demands it.

Readers are probably aware of the dispute between Board President Chris Bentley and Assistant Superintendent Matt Spencer concerning Mr. Bentley's incessant BULLYING of numerous HUSD employees. Things came to a head when Dr. Spencer refused to be bullied. In response President Bentley insisted Superintendent McKinney issue a termination notice of his contract for the Board to consider at the January 13 meeting. This action caused Spencer to call for the Board to investigate Bentley's bullying of HUSD employees. After that meeting Bentley vowed he would not sit at the dais with Spencer present. True to his word Bentley banished the whole Cabinet of 4 assistant superintendents to the back of the room for the 1/20 and 1/24 board meetings. At the 1/24/11 meeting HUSD school police chief Mike Graham added his complaint as follows.

"Good evening Board members and Cabinet. To preface what I'm about to say — I owe nothing to Dr. Spencer. As a matter of fact, I barely know Dr. Spencer. We've only met and spoken a couple of times.

As chief of police for this District, I often hear from Administrators and their secretaries that Mr. Bentley has berated them and left them in tears. This started years before he was elected to the Board and continues today — well; at least until Dr. Spencer called him on it. Prior to his election, Mr. Bentley has called me names and belittled me. That's OK, because in my years in law enforcement, it comes with the territory. Now that he's been elected, the name calling has stopped but the belittling and harassment didn't.

Last May is the last time Mr. Bentley and I have had a conversation or even shook hands. This stems from Mr. Bentley angrily confronting me at the May 3rd school board meeting. It occurred during the comfort break. Mr. Bentley was angered because I endorsed a political candidate that he did not approve of. He confronted me prior to this at the Hesperia Jr. High School parking lot. He told me it would be wise of me to steer clear of this political candidate. He also relayed messages to me through my officers saying that I needed to distance myself from the candidate I supported.

At the May 3rd Board meeting, he angrily told me "When are you going to learn, Graham?!"

"I don't think you get it!" "You don't work for him!"… referring to the candidate whom I was at the time supporting. I countered with "That's right, and I don't work for you!"

Since I countered his bullying, he's left me alone. He will not shake my hand or even acknowledge me. But that's OK, he leaves me alone. Possibly to find a weaker subject afraid to stand up to him.

Mr. Bentley has continued to berate me saying I denied or rejected his wife's volunteer form. This is absolutely not true. Mr. Bentley knows what really happened but will not admit to the truth of the matter. A mistake occurred which was immediately rectified with an apology, however, he continued to question why his wife's application was denied.

Since last May, Mr. Bentley has not acknowledged me or any greeting I extend him…nor has or has spoke more than one sentence to me. The first sentence was last week at Oak Hills High School when I found some paperwork in the parking lot that belonged to him.

It has actually been a relief that he has distanced himself from me. However, my support staff is fearful that Mr. Bentley will begin tormenting them and this department with his wasteful records requests and whatever else he can think up.

Mr. Bentley, I'm gonna pass on something I learned from my hillbilly up bringing: "You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar."'

As it now stands President Bentley desires to ELIMINATE the school police department in retaliation to the Chief's remarks! Mr. Bentley is on an out of control power binge!
