The Victor Valley Moose Lodge #1808 in Hesperia is accustomed to making a difference. Last Saturday, members of the fraternal organization showed their appreciation to local law enforcement by hosting a steak and chicken dinner.

"This is the first time I can recall having law enforcement here," said Roxanne Walker, a one-year Moose Lodge member who also serves at the Hesperia Police Station's public information officer. "This is a way that this lodge shows that we appreciate what they do for our community."

Altogether, about 25 sheriff's deputies, service specialists and others from the local station came in shifts for the event. Lt. Mike Stansell joined the early bird crew.

The Hesperia Police Station personnel were entertained by musicians Vic Vaughn and Jerry Haney, who comprise the Gruesome Twosome.

The Loyal Order of the Moose was founded in the late 1800s by a Louisville, KY physician. The organization began promoting community service in the middle of the 20th century.
