Approximately 100 chamber members and dignitaries were on hand Thursday afternoon for the grand opening of the new Hesperia Chamber of Commerce offices.

"Our [old] place was hard to find," chamber CEO Yvonne Woytovich said Thursday. "We really focused on finding something on Main Street."

"The chamber has been trying to find a building for 15 years now," said chairman of the board Matt Hawkins. With the economic downturn and the resulting drop in real estate prices, "the price was right."

"Now we have a location where" new arrivals to the city "can find us right away," said Woytovich.

"Now we can be that welcome center," said Hawkins.

The dignitaries assembled likewise predicted big things for the new office:

"This is a great moment for Hesperia," said Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-59th). "We look forward to this being the start of a new business climate that's actually friendly in California."

"A chamber of commerce is vital to the interests of a business community," said Councilman Russ Blewett. "I look forward to getting this business community moving in the next couple of years."

"It's been about 50 years," said Councilman Thurston "Smitty" Smith, "And finally, the chamber of commerce has its own home."

The new Hesperia Chamber of Commerce office is located at 14321 Main Street, near Tamarisk Avenue. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call (760) 244-2135 or visit hesperiacc.com.
