Once again the Moose Lodge #1808 in Hesperia will donate Tommy Moose stuffed dolls to the Visiting Nurses Association of the Inland Counties.

The 84 moose, which is more than previous years, will go to children attending Camp Erin, an annual event run by Mourning Star, a children's grief program. The campers are helped through the loss of a loved one during their fun stay at the Big Bear Lake-area camp.

"Every child gets one," said Bessie Havens, who has coordinated the local Moose Lodge Tommy Moose donation.

The Tommy Moose help comfort those children in need of support.

"In trauma situations it calms the kids down," said lodge administrator Don Little, a past governor.

The Tommy Moose donations are made possible by all at the lodge.

"This is an ongoing thing we do," Little added. "The different degrees of the Moose contribute to this."

Funded by The Moyer Foundation, Camp Erin consists of nearly 28 bereavement camps throughout the country.
