Peter Day's last issue of the Hesperia Star hit the stands on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and later that evening the Hesperia City Council said their good-byes to the long-time editor of the city paper.

"Peter was one of the few reporters that I've ever dealt with who tried to report everything that was good," Mayor Mike Leonard told the audience at Tuesday night's city council meeting. "So I really have to thank Peter for his trying hard to report everything that was good instead of the bad. We hear enough of the bad."

"The Hesperia Star is the finest, newsiest little newspaper I've ever read," said Councilman Russ Blewett.

"He's going to be missed. And I wish him luck in his new job and hope he stays in contact," said Leonard. "Peter, thank you, very much."

Day has accepted a position at a newspaper in La Caņada Flintridge. He was the Hesperia Star's longest-serving editor, overseeing it from 2003 through 2011.

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District board of directors similarly honored Day at their Aug. 10 meeting.
