HESPERIA • A Hesperia woman was killed in Big Bear when she was struck by a Jeep that failed to make a stop, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's officials said Thursday.
Cheryl Hightower, 65, was riding her 1997 Harley-Davidson westbound on North Shore Drive in Big Bear at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the coroner's website. A Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on Greenway Drive when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Greenway and North Shore drives, according to officials.
The Jeep struck Hightower and she was tossed from the motorcycle. Hightower was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was shut down for most of the morning as California Highway Patrol officers conducted their investigation.
Hightower was a longtime human resources director at Snow Summit Mountain Resort, and was reportedly preparing to retire from her post soon.
The CHP is investigating the incident.
