Options For Youth to hold back-to-school night


Options for Youth, an independent charter school with three Hesperia locations, will be holding a back-to-school event from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday for new, returning and prospective students and their parents.

Sing for Cancer karaoke contest


The community is invited to a Sing for Cancer karaoke contest Saturday beginning at noon. The contest will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Joshua Palms Post 2924, 10184 Hesperia Road. There will be food, drinks, raffle prizes and more. Proceeds will benefit the V.F.W.'s Auxiliary Cancer Programs.


The entry fee is $5 and sign-ups will end at 11 a.m. the day of the contest. Early sign-ups at any post are also available. First place winner will receive $100, second place $75 and third place $25. For more information, call (760) 244-4296.


Parents invited to 'back-to-school' education night


The Fall Back-to-School Parent Night on Sept. 29 will give parents with children in the Hesperia Unified School District the chance to attend sessions to better help with their child's education. Parents can choose three sessions of their choice, with topics including help in math, reading, homework, technology, plus bullies, gangs and more.

Park district seeking volunteers


The Hesperia Recreation and Park District is looking for volunteers. Volunteers at the Percy Bakker Community Center will work in the office answering telephone calls and showing the property to potential renters. Those who love history can join a group at the Harrison Exhibit Center where old Hesperia and the Victor Valley meet modern day visitors.

Ushers' annual barbecue dinner


The public is invited to Holy Family Catholic Church's annual barbecue dinner. The barbecue will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 24. Guests will dine on a variety of items such as ribs, chicken and links plus salad and dessert. Adults are $6 and children 12 and under are $3. The church is located at 9974 I Ave.
