VICTORVILLE A Hesperia parolee who tried to break into a house but got scared off by the female homeowner was sentenced to four years in prison.

Garland Jerome Weicks, 31, accepted the prosecution's offer and pleaded no contest Thursday to one felony count of attempted burglary and one misdemeanor count of falsely identifying himself to a peace officer. Victorville Superior Court Judge Jules Fleuret sentenced him to prison immediately after accepting the plea agreement.

The victim said she was at her Hesperia home in the 11500 block of Fourth Avenue when she saw Weicks trying to pry open a window, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials. After the defendant and victim made eye contact, Weicks fled.

Weicks had previously been convicted of burglary in 1999 and 2008.
