Local historian Todd Anton and 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt are among the expected speakers at the Hesperia Recreation and Park District's annual Veterans Day ceremony Friday.

"It's of course the 11th day of the 11th hour, good old Armistice Day," said Park District Supervisor Steve Hamm. In keeping with the origins of the holiday, the ceremony will kick off at 11 a.m. near the war memorial at Hesperia Lake Park.

There will also be a color guard, a 21-gun salute and songs sung for each of the branches of the military.

The ceremony is being hosted in cooperation with AMVETS.

The annual event typically draws a good-sized crowd.

"We typically, behind the lake, put a couple hundred chairs out," Hamm said.
