Hesperia Unified School District is hoping to be a major part of residents' holiday shopping this year.

More of everything will be available at this year's Parents Coordinating Council Scholastic Warehouse Book Sale, according to Deb Baker, assistant to the superintendent and coordinator of the sale.

Specifically, the sale will have more Scholastic books for sale, more cash registers open, double the adult volunteers helping with the sale and more shopping carts on loan from Target and Stater Bros.

"The entire cafeteria of Hesperia High School will be full of books and everything will be at least 50 percent off," Baker said.

Profits from the sale go to scholarships for HUSD students. The sale already has thousands of dollars in preorders from school sites around Southern California, according to Baker.

Volunteers range from Hesperia High School students completing their community service hours by dressing up as characters from children's books to members of the Friends of the Library to a Hesperia Unified staff and others.

"Especially in light of the current economy, this is a great way to buy books for your children," Baker said.

The PCC Scholastic Warehouse Book Sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at Hesperia High School. For more information, call (760) 244-4411, ext. 7215.
