The Hesperia Trojans capped off a winning season with a national championship title.
On Nov. 26, four Trojan football teams played in the National Youth Football Championships in Las Vegas. A merged team of 10- to 13-year-olds made up of five members of the Trojans' Pee Wee team and 18 members of Jr. Pee Wee team went on to beat the undefeated Sacramento Cougars 18-7, clinching the national title.
"They did a lot of work to get to where they got," said Trojans public relations director Marisol Ramaro. "If you saw those (Sacramento) kids, you'd say there was no way they could beat them."
The all-star team included Brett Brammer, Charles Buckingham, Jake Campbell, Gabriel Cervantes, Johnathan Garcia, Eddie Gleason, Joseph Griffin, Gabriel Hernandez, Hunter Hughes, Jordan Lewis-Green, Ian Martinez, Yasid Marin, Gabriel Mariscal, Rocco Mastandrea, Michael Mendoza, Noah Metzger, Adrian Penagos, Christian Romero, Andrew Ross, Joseph Vicario, Isaac Wilson, Steven Valencia and Justin Villalobos.
They were coached by head coach Robert Brammer and assistant coaches Todd Espindola, Saul Romero and Joe Vicario, assisted by team athletic directors Carol Flodter, Jamie Hughes and Melody Miller.
