Chris Bentley, the outspoken Hesperia Unified school board gadfly-turned-board member-turned-board-president will have another year wielding the gavel.

Bentley was chosen by his fellow members to get a second go-round as board president at Monday's meeting by a 3-2 vote, with fellow members Hardy Black and Anthony Riley dissenting.

Black had nominated Riley as board president before Bentley was nominated by board member Eric Swanson, but the motion died due to a lack of a second from the rest of the board.

The board presidency is chosen annually by fellow board members. The board president officiates meetings and helps set the board agenda, along with Superintendent Mark McKinney.

Swanson was elected vice-president and board member Niccole Childs was chosen clerk of the board, all by the same 3-2 vote.

The next regular meeting of the HUSD school board will be held on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. in the HUSD Educational Support Center Annex, 15576 Main Street.
